The Tshwane Market previously known as “Pretoria Fresh Produce Market” or “Pretoria Market” is a Fresh Produce Market where fresh produce is traded to the mutual benefit of suppliers, buyers and consumers. It provides an efficient and cost-effective infrastructure and services that comply with international standards.
The Tshwane Market has a national and international client-base. On the procurement side produce is obtained from producers country-wide and on the supply side the market is supported by buyers from all walks of life in South Africa and neighbouring countries. Prices are formed on the basis of supply and demand and set the trend for prices nationally.

To buy at the Tshwane Market you must have a market account and a buyer’s tag.
There are 2 types of accounts available:Credit account
To use a credit account an application form must be completed and a bank guarantee submitted as surety. Only cash and electronic payments are accepted for a credit account.Secured cash account
To use a secured cash account an application form must be completed. The buyer should provide either of the following documents when applying for a buyers tag: SA GREEN ID; SA DRIVERS LICENCE; ASSYLUM LETTER OR PASSPORT AND PROOF OF RESIDENCE. This account is recommended for buyer’s who do not have a need for credit facilities. Only cash and electronic payments are accepted for a secured cash account. Funds must be deposited into this account before purchases can be made.- A buyer’s tag must be used for all purchases irrespective of which account is used.
- A buyer’s tag is obtained from the market chief cashier for R10.00
- If a buyer loses a tag, the reissue tag is obtainable at R50.00
- Once the buyer has chosen which type of account to use and acquired a tag he/she can immediately procure fresh-produce from any market agent.
